The First Berliner Emanuel-Lasker Computerchess-Tournament (BELCT) took place at the Free University of Berlin, Berlin, from September 29 until October 3, 2001. The Tournament was the idea of the "Berlin Computer Chess Friends", Ingo Bauer, Peter Berger, Thorsten Czub, Stefan Knappe, Heiner Marxen and Volker Pittlik, and was devoted to Emanuel Lasker, supported by the Emanuel Lasker Society [1]. The hardware was kindly provided by AMD Germany. As a kind of opening ceremony, professor Raúl Rojas from the Free University and host of the tournament, hold an exclusive lecture for all participants about Konrad Zuse's Plankalkül, including some chess routines written in it. The First BELCT was played with ten participants, seven round swiss, time-control 90 minutes per side and game.
