Rook,
a chess program by Lars Karlsson written in Z80 assembly for the card computer Data Board 4680 [1], produced by Dataindustrier AB, the company founded in 1970 by Karlsson himself [2]. Rook is a typical Shannon Type A program, performing Alpha-Beta with focus on the Killer heuristic. With respectful 3 out of 5 and a shared third place Rook 4.0 had its strong debut at the WMCCC 1980 in London. During the 1981 CeBIT fair in Hanover, Germany, where Boris Spassky gave a simultaneous exhibition, one participant was Rook 4.5, which lost its game like most others of 25, except three who drew [3].
