Dana Walter Nance Mackenzie,
an American mathematician, science writer, chess national master and USCF life master (LM) [1], two-time former champion of North Carolina[2], chess lecturer, and chess blogger. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Princeton University in 1983 under advisor Frederick Justin Almgren Jr.[3], and was math professor for thirteen years before becoming a full-time science writer [4]. Dana Mackenzie has authored and co-authored several volumes of What’s Happening in the Mathematical Sciences[5], an ongoing series published by the American Mathematical Society (AMS).
