David Edward Goldberg, an American civil engineer, entrepreneur, computer scientist, until 2010 professor at the department of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering (ISE) [1] at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and CEO of ThreeJoy Associates, Inc. [2] , a consulting and coaching firm. He also co-directs iFoundry [3] at the UIUC dedicated to the transformation of engineering education, and co-founded the web startup ShareThis in 2004. David E. Goldberg is renowned for his seminal works on genetic algorithms and has published a vast number of papers and books on that topic [4] .
