Gerhard Mehlsam,
an Austrian computer scientist with a Ph.D. from Vienna University of Technology in 1989 ^[1]. He continued his research with Hermann Kaindl and Wilhelm Barth on Feature Construction during Tree Learning ^[2] while affiliated with Siemens AG Austria, which addresses the “problem of new terms” in the context of learning decision trees using the approach based on Ross Quinlan's Iterative Dichotomiser 3 (ID3) ^[3].
