Heureka,
a chess program by Gerold Fischer which played the WMCCC 1996 in Jakarta. Heureka was further announced to participate the WMCCC 1997 in Paris[1], when Fischer withdrew in favour to the late registered MChess, as suggested by Fischer's partner and Goliath author Michael Borgstädt[2] . After rumors on Heureka's origins appeared [3], Borgstädt clarified Goliath and Heureka were different programs, possibly sharing ideas but no source code [4].
Heureka, in English the /h/ is dropped for Eureka, is an interjection used to celebrate a discovery, a transliteration of a word attributed to Archimedes[5] . What this discovery was in Fischer's chess program is not traditional.
^The Golden Crown (Sources), This illustration and text are from a magazine advertisement for NBC, probably dating from the 1940’s. It was found among the files of the Print and Picture Department of the Free Library of Philadelphia. The word “eureka!” is coming out of Archimedes’ mouth.
