The 3rd Italian Open Chess Software Cup was held on October 6 and 7, 2012, Galleria Alberto Sordi, Rome, Italy. The event, organized by Giuseppe Sgrò ^[1] , was part the 1st Clericus International Chess Championship ^[2], completed by an act of exorcism, a match between two Italian priests and the program Satana ^[3].

Original vs. Free

The IOCSC 2012 has been applied to the new regulations of Gruppo Scacchi e Informatica - G 6, to distinct original from derived (free) programs. Original programs were subject of heavy examinations, "free" programs were derived programs, or programs where the author denied examination. The program Booot has been included in the free category on his author's choice, though potentially he could feel comfortable participating in the original category ^[4].
