Lothar M. Schmitt,
a German mathematician, physicist, and computer scientist, professor at University of Aizu, Aizuwakamatsu Fukushima, and chair of its Mathematical Foundation of Computer Science Laboratory. He holds a M.Sc. in mathematics and physics and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Saarland University in 1981 and 1985, and a habilitation in mathematics from University of Osnabrück in 1991. His research interests include functional analysis, quantum physics, theoretical computer science, applied computing with genetic algorithms and software design [1]. Along with Tomohiko Mitsuta he published on optimizing the performance of GNU Chess with a genetic algorithm [2].
