Miroslaw (Mirek) Pawlak,
a Polish electrical engineer, computer scientist and professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. He obtained his M.Sc. in 1979 and Ph.D. in 1982 at Wrocław University of Technology, Poland, Department of Engineering Cybernetics. Ph.D. title is Pattern recognition by orthogonal expansions under the supervision of Professor Włodzimierz Greblicki [1]. His research interests include pattern recognition, image processing and computer vision. Along with Jing Yang and Simon Liao, he researched on the game of Hex, and proposed new winning strategies for 7 x 7 and 8 x 8 boards.
