Norman C. Treloar, a British born, Canadian chemist, astrophysicist, environmental consultant, climatologist, checkers player and programmer. He received a B.Sc. in 1965 and Ph.D. 1970 in chemistry (Leicester) and a M.Sc. 1976 in astrophysics (London). In the 80s, he was affiliated with the University of British Columbia, Vancouver and the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Richmond campus, and was operator at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory, Penticton [1]. In 1989 he became member of the Chinook team at University of Alberta around Jonathan Schaeffer, where he was responsible for most of the checkers knowledge that has been incorporated into Chinook [2].
