(captive or reversed piece) may placed onto an empty square on the board to subsequently be used as own piece.

A pawn, knight, or lance may not be dropped on the furthest rank
A knight may not be dropped on the penultimate (player's 8th) rank
Dropping within the promotion zone doesn't result in immediate
promotion
A pawn cannot be dropped onto a file containing another unpromoted pawn of the same player
A pawn cannot be dropped to give an immediate
checkmate
Crazyhouse

Drops resulting in immediate checkmate are permitted, including pawns
Pawns may not be dropped the 1st or last ranks
Promoted but captured pawns are dropped as pawns
