Dennis Robert (Rob) Fatland,
an American geophysicist, environmental researcher and program manager for the external research division of MicrosoftResearch[1]. He received a B.S. in physics from Caltech in 1987 and a Ph.D. in geophysics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1998 [2]. As chess and computer chess aficionado at Caltech during the late 80s, he was member of the Waycool team around Ed Felten, Steve Otto and Rod Morison[3].
