Robert Ancell, an Australian software engineer [1], open source developer with focus on Linux distributions, in particular Ubuntu, and the desktop environmentGNOME [2], and since 2009 Canonical employee [3]. Residing in New Zealand, and holds a BE in electrical and electronic engineering from University of Canterbury, Christchurch in 2002 [4]. Concerning computer chess, Robert Ancell was primary author and initial maintainer of the glChess and GNOME Chess open source chess GUIs [5], both compliant with the Chess Engine Communication Protocol.
