Stephen Joseph J. Smith,
an American computer scientist and lead programmer [1] at Great Game Products [2], the makers of Bridge Baron, the 1997 world champion of computer bridge [3], where he along with Dana Nau and Thomas A. Throop developed the AI-planning techniques [4] [5]. He holds a Ph.D. in 1997 from University of Maryland, College Park on search and planning applied to Bridge [6], and co-authored several papers on that topic as well on forward pruning [7].
