The A.R.B Chess System,
an opening system developed by Anthony.R.Brown more than 30 years ago as a response to the growing strength of chess engines. The apparently passive system aims to give the programs an initial advantage in space and development by allowing them to push center pawns. The A.R.B Chess System is characterized by playing six single step pawn pushes before developing any pieces, except for obvious tactical reasons like recapturing etc.. Playing the six pawns in {edhagb} order is claimed to be crucial. Further strategies are developing the knights to the second rank center squares, bishop fianchettos, and closing the center, no or delayed castling, provoking early pawn advances by the programs, often yielding in long term weaknesses.
