Thomas Sauerwald, a German computer scientist and lecturer at the Computer Laboratory, University of Cambridge, and before research associate and later senior researcher at Max Planck Institute for Informatics, Saarbrücken. He received his Ph.D. from PaSCo graduate school [1] at the University of Paderborn, and was postdoc at Simon Fraser University, Canada. His research interests include randomized algorithms, Markov chains and random walks, distributed computing, load balancing, and graph and game theory [2]. While affiliated with the University of Paderborn, in co-work with Tobias Tscheuschner, Thomas supported and later relieved Ulf Lorenz as tournament organizer of the International Paderborn Computer Chess Championship (IPCCC).
