Treebeard, a multi-platform, commercial chess program developed by Jeff Rollason, supported by Didzis Cirulis. Treebeard, an AI Factory product, applies a complex Swapping Off Material Analyzer (SOMA) of the whole board, also considering pins and ties to defend against captures, forks and even mate threats, similar as descibed in Rollason's SUPER-SOMA approach for Shogi [1], which guides a probability-based tree search. Treebeard comes with an optional 3D Board as version of Chess for the PC, and is currently the chess engine used by Microsoft for their MSN Chess [2] [3]. Further, Treebeard is incorporated in AI Factory's Chess Free for Android [4].
