Commonly, X-ray in Chess refers to a family of several tactical motives, where a sliding piece attacks through any other piece in a ray-direction. In particular, a X-ray refers to an indirect defense, where a sliding piece conditionally defends an own piece, which is attacked by an x-rayed opponent sliding piece from the same direction. X-ray and batteries may be subject of static exchange evaluation.
