XBoard is a graphical user interface for the Chess Engine Communication Protocol running under the Unix operating system based on the X Window System, originally developed by Tim Mann as GNU Chess interface ^{[1] [2]}. In Fall 2013, Joshua Pettus managed to port XBoard to MAC OS X using the native Quarz Graphics layer ^{[3] [4]}.
