Insomniac used various [[Extensions#FractionalExtensions|fractional extensions]] over the time like [[One Reply Extensions|one-reply-to-check extensions]], and [[Check Extensions|extends]] half a ply whenever there is a check in the tree <ref>[[http://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=50627|Extensions and Futility Pruning]] by [[James Robertson]], [[CCC]], May 04, 1999</ref> . Concerning [[Null Move Pruning#ThreatDetection|mate extensions]] after [[Null Move Pruning|null move]], there were early issues with scores rarely in the mate range <ref>[[http://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=57953|Null move mate extension]] by [[James Robertson]], [[CCC]], June 25, 1999</ref>, presumably due to [[Fail-Hard|failing-hard]].
