a family of [[Private Engines|private chess engines]] by [[Stefan Knappe]]. Matador played six [[IPCCC|IPCCCs]], and had its debut in [[IPCCC 2000|2000]] where it upset [[IsiChess]] in the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-Slav_Defense#Botvinnik_Variation_.285...dxc4.29|Semi-Slav Botvinnik Variation]], further the [[BELCT 2001]] as //Lokalmatador// <ref>[[https://de.wiktionary.org/wiki/Lokalmatador|Lokalmatador – Wiktionary]]</ref>, and the [[CCT6]] and [[CCT7]] online tournaments. 

The first version, Matator **I**, developed in 1996, was written in [[Basic#VB|Visual Basic 5.0]], had an own [[GUI]], used a [[10x12 Board]], performing [[Principal Variation Search|PVS]] with [[Transposition Table|transposition table]], [[Null Move Pruning|null move pruning]], [[Quiescence Search|quiescence search]], and some kind of [[Check Extensions|check extensions]] <ref>[[http://www.open-aurec.com/wbforum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=43060|wacnew.epd & single search improvements (extensions)]] by [[Stefan Knappe]], [[Computer Chess Forums|Winboard Forum]], June 19, 2003 » [[Win at Chess]]</ref>.
