a family of chess programs for the [[Sinclair ZX81]] developed by [[Artic Computing]] and distributed by Artic and other vendors since 1981. Opposed to the 1982 stable mate [[1K ZX Chess]] by [[David Horne]], which takes less than one [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibibyte|KiB]] or [[Memory|memory]], ZX Chess requires the 16 KiB expansion. There is no author mentioned on the booklet, but according to an interview with Artic's co-founder Richard Turner, published in [[Your Computer]], May 1982 <ref>[[http://yourcomputeronline.wordpress.com/tag/brendon-gore/|Brendon Gore]] (**1982**). //[[http://yourcomputeronline.wordpress.com/2011/02/27/interview-one-degree-in-artic/|Interview-One Degree In Artic]]//. [[Your Computer]], [[http://yourcomputeronline.wordpress.com/2011/02/23/may-1982-contents-and-editorial/|May 1982]]</ref>, his fellow, co-founder and Artic's director [[Chris Thornton]], already programmed in machine language. The development took about one year, and ZX Chess was Artic's initial top seller. Chris Thornton, who was credited as author of [[Spectrum Chess]] and [[Turbo Chess (GB)|Turbo Chess]] <ref>[[http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekpub.cgi?regexp=%5EChris+A.+Thornton$&loadpics=1|Chris A. Thornton - World of Spectrum]]</ref> for the [[ZX Spectrum]], was presumably also involved in the development of ZX Chess.
